Maison pour Dodo
Maison pour Dodo is a refurbishment of an apartment in Stoke Newington, Hackney, London.
Studio Merlin created a generous yet minimal connected living space on the first floor, whilst rebalancing the size of spaces on the second to provide a larger family bathroom. As storage in residential properties is always a welcome addition, but can encourage the collection of unnecessary things, the project re-articulates the layout of the apartment to provide compressed storage in less useful spaces and through the combination of architecture and interior design, deliberately encourages curated minimal living. The scheme seeks to create calming scandinavian design with a soft French twist. Pastel-franco colour tones compliment natural whitewashed Douglas Fir, used as flooring throughout and wrapping up walls to create high quality thresholds and informal seating with strategic views. Edges are softened / rounded throughout, whilst whitened Ash and bespoke Douglas Fir furniture created from offcuts provide a warmer domestic tactility and reduced construction waste.
