Fallen Leaves Pavilion
The Fallen Leaves Pavilion is a collaborative concept design with New Office of Works for the City of Dreams Pavilion in New York City.
The pavilion brief was to create a structure to enclose a small performance stage, whilst addressing the theme of an increasing strain on economic and natural resources.
The proposal featured a bamboo superstructure with pressed palm leaf plates and bowls used as decorative cladding in a form of industrial symbiosis, a process where bi-products of the palm oil industry are turned into a biodegradable alternative to single use plastics.
Cooling towers of the coal industry have an iconic form, yet one that is being lost due to a shift to renewable energy. The pavilion adopts the cooling tower form, which, combined with the palm leaf cladding, highlights two strains on the the worlds resources - waste and energy.
